Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, or simply Six Flags, is an American amusement park corporation headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. It was formed on July 2, 2024, following a merger between longtime rivals Cedar Fair and the former Six Flags company. The combined company owns and operates 51 properties throughout North America (USA, Canada, and Mexico), including amusement parks, water parks, and resorts (including the once former siblings California's Great America in Santa Clara, California and Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois.). Six Flags was founded in the 1960s and derived its name from its first property, Six Flags Over Texas. The company maintains a corporate office in Midtown Manhattan, while its headquarters are in Arlington, Texas.
Six Flags Great America is an amusement park located in Gurnee, Illinois, within the northern Chicago metropolitan area. Originally opened in 1976 by the Marriott Corporation as Marriott's Great America, Six Flags has owned and operated the park since 1984. It features four themed areas and fifteen roller coasters, as well as a 20-acre (81,000 m2) water park called Hurricane Harbor Chicago. Over 3 million guests visited Six Flags Great America in 2017, ranking it among the top 20 amusement parks in North America for attendance.
